Rachel Stephen, Student RN, Curtin University

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Charlotte Keneston, Student RN, Edith Cowan University

"It was all so overwhelming to start with, I felt hopeless. A great experience for use to be here though."

Professor Mark Jones, Program Director, Global Health Alliance Western Australia

"We prepare both our students and supervisors for what they encounter during their international clinical experiences. We take them from their known environment, mix them up into groups to work with other students and supervisors from all five of our participating universities, and then immerse them into a starkly different health care environment.

On a recent trip to Tanzania, our students and supervisors were confronted with ethical dilemmas, adult and infant deaths and a multitude of things they would never see at home. This truly tested everything they have learnt during their courses and professional careers. They all represented their universities, GHAWA, and their profession with dignity and respect. I am so proud of all of them.

During the trip someone remarked 'it is just like we have one big GHAWA university' I knew we had made a significant leap forward in the collaboration between our university partners. I commend ECU, Curtin, UWA, Murdoch and Notre Dame for their vision in working together through GHAWA to achieve this."
